Posted by Unknown on Sunday, November 4, 2012

use in long-distance travel, the bike must also be designed specifically for the needs of touring ....
Certainly, the main bike is complete you should have, so that you can make long journeys by bike. However, choosing what bike is right for your needs, it is not as easy as imagined. There are 5 types of trips touring by bicycle, which would require a different type of bike. In the market there are several types of bicycles, which although designed specifically (such as Road Bike, MTB, ATB, etc.) but did not specifically designed as a touring bike. However, it could also be used to touring after a few adjustments.

To be more clear, let us discuss one by one bike that is generally available on the market.
Mountain Bikes or Mountain Bike (MTB)

Mountain bikes may be the only type of bikes we currently have. When viewing these bikes might we begin to think about ya can not be used for mountain bike touring?

Of course, mountain bikes can be used to travel long distances, or even around the world though. But of course, a long trip with a mountain bike is not something easy. Most mountain bikes are not designed for cycling on the road / asphalt in a very long time.

Furthermore, we will see the choices better.
However, the mountain bike is extremely reliable for some road conditions. If we plan a trip we will be more through dirt roads, rocky or offroad, then a mountain bike is an excellent choice for your trip.

Bike Racing or Road Bike
Bike racing is a bike that we see in road bike racing, like the Tour de France or Giro d'Italia, a famous athlete is Lance Armstrong, Contador, or Tonton Susanto, our road racer.

Bike racing is great for use on a long journey, but with the support of a companion vehicle, where all fixtures and equipment we brought the escort vehicle. However, an independent for long trips, where all equipment brought by bike, racing bike can not be used.
Racing bikes are made to be able to run fast, but not to carry the load. And besides, bike racing is not very convenient for us to drive for 6 hours or more, every day.

Recumbent Bikes
Recumbent Bike is a bicycle ride in which our current position similar to the position we are currently sitting on the couch. Many who use these bikes because they have problems with your back or knees, but many are driving because they think the bike is fun to drive.

Although not all, there are some Recumbent bikes are already equipped gear to travel far. Before deciding to buy, much better to ask or survey first. For conditions in Indonesia, but because it is still imported and are expensive for the average bike, some Recumbent bikes are too low to be used on highways and potentially endangering safety.

Folding Bike (Folding Bike)
Folding bikes are identical as the commuter bike, but with increasing the traveling distance by bike, folding bike manufacturers started making folding bikes designed specifically as a folding bike for long-distance travel, or touring bike.

Advantages compared to other bike folding bike is, we can pack it in a suitcase / special bag, and store it in the trunk of the plane, ship, train, or bus. And, we were traveling with our bikes more easily. Traveling with the whole bike is certainly not always easy, because it's a folding bike for some people even considered weird shape, has advantages of its own.

Bikes Turing
Well, finally we get to bike touring. This is a bike that is designed specifically for long trips by bicycle.

Actually what is the distinguishing touring bike with another bike?
There are some things that are different. Here are some fittings that are generally held by a touring bike:

- Bicycle touring has a tire tread wider than bike racing, which allows the bike turing able to carry heavier loads, and also driving on bad roads. Most touring bikes were able to overcome the condition of the dirt roads, rocky or blocked roads.

- Bicycle touring is usually made of durable steel. Because bicycle touring is required to carry extra heavy loads, then touring bike frame should be made of stronger material. Generally, a widely used are Chrome Moly steel (CrMo 4130).
- Manufacturers and designers know very well that touring bike touring cyclists will spend a very long time, in the saddle, so they designed the bike more comfortable for the back, buttocks, hands / arms, and our throats.

- On a bike touring we will be more upright position than the position we are currently riding a racing bike or mountain bike.

- On a bike touring, completeness readily available to help us put the front and rear rack, so that we can carry our bags on the bike panniers.

- In addition, there are several other small completeness exist (or may not) on bicycle touring, more comfortable ride on long distance travel. For example, the hand pump handle, or point fingers backup bike.
Currently touring bikes are rare and difficult to obtain, to get a bike that is suitable to serve as a touring bike, a process of trial and error I did.

Bicycle touring 'wannabe' My first bike was a Federal Everest, which I attach the rear rack Topeak super tourist dx, and the front rack aluminum rear rack modified in such a way that I customized to fit mounted in front. Until now, this bike is a bike that I use for the main dikayuh to the office every day and ... I NEVER EVEN USE FOR Turing! Heheheheeee .... This is because the top tube length for my body size.

However, I think this Federal bike is one of the best bike to be bicycle touring, because it met the criteria for a touring bike as mentioned above, and very comfortable while driving.
Six bikes I have tried, until finally getting a bike that fits. Not a new bike, but this bike fit and very comfortable ride, and dikayuh a long journey. But the main thing is, this bike is BICYCLE Turing, a bike that is specially made and designed as a toruing bike with all the accessories.

Currently, to get a new touring bike is relatively easy. The increasing number of those who travel long distances by bicycle in Indonesia, finally glimpsed by some importers bike. For Turing Bike 26 "Surly there are brands, and for folding bicycle touring there are more choices, there are brands Bike Friday, KHS F20 World, or a Dahon Speed TR (touring). Live according to our financial ability to get a touring bike that fits your needs.

Tips on Buying a Mountain Bike

Posted by Unknown

Once inside the bike shop there are various options confusing. Without adequate knowledge about the bike, we might buy a bike that is not in accordance with its function.

For those with deep pockets, buying the wrong bike certainly not a serious problem. But for those who have to save up little by little to buy a bike, one vote is a big deal.

Never buy a bike just for the pleasure of the shape, but prioritize the functions and needs. First, you decide what to use. Make no mistake in choosing.

For example, like 'bike to work' with a distance of 40 kilometers home to office but BMX bikes purchased, or want to mountain bike but the city purchased. More narrowly, the MTB world, for example, used to bike cross country downhill, downhill bike or use dirtjump. Been no cases, cross-country frame break because being forced to play downhill.

Buy finished or assembled?

Mountain bikes can be purchased in the form of a bicycle so (full-bike) and assembled with components we specify its own. As a beginner which one to choose?

The first option, bought full-bike, then just come to the store, select, pay and immediately use. It's easy.

If you do not want to be bothered, or biking for you just to exercise and alternative transportation, then buy a full bike-bike is perfect. But buying full-bike also makes the bike we have less personal value, because certainly not a few others who have the same bike with us.

The second option is a bicycle assembly. There is a completely self-assemble from A to Z, but there is also a shop, but its components assembly by choice. Just like buying a computer assembly.

Build the bike itself is clearly more cumbersome than buying ready-made. But the advantages, bicycle assembly has value for its owner satisfaction because the specifications in accordance with the wishes and fit personal style.

Factors that should be considered in assembling is we have to understand the suitability of each component. Buying a bike is assembled therefore less recommended for beginners. Beginners who want to assemble their own bikes are strongly advised to invite the senior cyclists so that no one chose components.

For any quality problem, actually the same between buying so the assemblies. But for the price, with the equivalent component level, full-bike bike usually cheaper.

Why? Because full-bike bike produced in bulk, so it can reduce the cost of production. Unless we assemble the bicycle frame using pirated (generic), then the price becomes cheaper bike assembly.

The meaning is pirated frame mountain bike frames with famous brands (eg Specialized, Schwinn, Kona, etc..) But is not actually manufactured it. Frame pirated or popular with the generic term comes from Taiwan, the country's largest bicycle manufacturer in the world. Pirated frame rates can be four to five times cheaper than the original frame.
Mountain bikes were equipped only front suspension (hardtail), others also have front and rear suspension (dual supension / full suspension) or popular with the term fulsus. Choose which one?

When asked this usually advised beginners will start with a hardtail. Reason among others, that the beginner first familiarize yourself with the bike lighter, efficient pedaling, easy to control and simple in maintenance. After hours of flying with hardtail enough, then can switch to fulsus.

This advice may now be less relevant anymore, although it is also not wrong. Why? Because there were already a lot of bikes fulsus have approached hardtail performance and efficiency. Especially on a bike 'upmarket'.

So, if his budget is already available, it never hurts to try out fulsus. Similarly, for people who are just getting started cycling at the age of 30 upwards, choose fulsus would make cycling more convenient.

Of course, elected not fulsus 'sloppy' with bobbing effect (usually the local Chinese product or products at prices below Rp 2 million), because it will afflict and perhaps it will actually give up cycling.

Bobbing effect is loosened and tightened the chain due to movement of the rear suspension, making a severe stroke and energy wasted. Characteristic fulsus as it is made of steel frame, single-pivot rear suspension system, and drivetrainnya 18 speed.

But one thing is for sure, for a starter for the first time to buy MTB, buy a bike cross country first. Both hardtail and fulsus. Do not buy a bike freeride, especially downhill.

First set your bike budget

So that no one in the choice, you should first determine how much budget shopping bike. Only then look for a bike that suits our budget was.

If the budget was only Rp800 thousand, look at that bike. Do not be easily tempted and bought a bike too far over the budget is prepared. I could have your wife at home tantrum because his monthly quota reduced.

However, if you've made up the intention to jump in this hobby, you should not buy a bike that costs under R1, 5 million. When you've got to know the bike world, it is usually a desire to upgrade, improve bike specifications.

If the price of the bike was first purchased under R1, 5 million, it would be difficult to upgrade it. Because the frame is usually made of iron with 18 or 21 speed gears. If it is difficult to upgrade, of course, the choice is to buy new. That means that increasingly bloated budget.

Indeed, the more expensive the bike the better the quality. The saying 'guns prices will lie' applies to buying a bike.

But cheap does not mean having a bike owner contemptible, have expensive bikes is also not signify noble owners. It's just a matter of how thick your pocket.

Just like buying a mobile device. For a monthly income of R1, 5 million, the phone worth 350 thousand is sufficient.

But for those whose income reached Rp 10 million a month, would be to buy a more expensive phone, which of course must have qualified quality and technology.
Buying a bike can also be analogous to buying a car. Cars ranging from tens of millions to billions of dollars available. Bikes too, ranging from precious Rp500 thousand to tens of millions of dollars there.

Rather than question the prestige is more important to you rather minimal financially to prove that even with the cheap bike but you better at the ramp, more versed in offroad terrain, and his stronger endurance. While, of course, set aside some of your income in the future to be able to upgrade your bike or buy a better bike liking.

How much is it?

Mountain bike / MTB can be purchased ranging from the millions to tens of millions of dollars. Quality materials, features and design that distinguishes.

Mountain bike for R1 million, the frame is made of steel and it has a variation of 18 or 21 speed gears, while tens of millions of carbon fiber, the same material with the aircraft and already has 27 speed gears. For most people, the frame is made from aluminum to be sufficient.

If your budget is enough, do not buy a mountain bike for under R1, 5 million. For beginners who just want to bicycling for fun, bicycles costing 2-3 million dollars with aluminum frame and 24 speed gear shift is very adequate.

However, if you are interested in off-road cycling on the mountain, it would be wise if you prepare a budget at least 5 million. Not for the prestige, but for the sake of convenience and safety while we are out in the open.

This price is to increase to 27 speed drivetrain, which functions in order to become more efficient pedaling. But for those who are addicted, bikes worth Rp10 million is still deemed less.

Be careful also to upgrade the virus, because every bike enthusiast certainly experienced this. Control your lust upgrade according to your needs and budget, do not push yourself because pride wearing entry level bike.

Do not let us just focus on physical activity enhance bicycle (bike fashion) but forgetting activity alone ride bikes. Although our economy can afford, but also for what bike to buy tens of millions of dollars if it is only used to enjoy a car free day every Sunday.

Tennis player types

Posted by Unknown

Article I took from writing Ron White, a USPTA tennis coach or his Pelti America. This paper is none other than to evaluate yourself fall into the type of player as you are.

In the narrative of White, at least in the tennis world there are 2 types of players. Let's say in this case the Type A and Type B. Is the Type A and Type B is:

Type A
A general type of player with good technique. Players love to play with this kind of style or beauty. In the morning he will be playing with pretty, cover the entire field and closed the game with his best. At least one player has a deadly type of stroke.

But Type A player has a weakness in the mental. Sometimes when you meet an opponent who does not fit the game or surrounding conditions, such as the type of the field or the weather is not suitable, then the game becomes chaotic. In conclusion, if the player is playing outside his comfort zone then the game automatically becomes chaotic and it was evident from his body language or the emotions.
In tennis pro, there are some names that could be classified as belonging to the class A players, like Marat Safin, Goran Ivanisevic or Venus Williams.

Type B
Type B is the type of player who is more "intelligent" than type A. He does not have a perfect technique, do not have a deadly weapon, but can read and adapt well in a game. Type B usually look for weaknesses or errors opponent in tennis. He's like a wall that is very hard to penetrate so that every ball that hit can always be restored properly. This type of player I was in college when the time is often dubbed as CCKL (Search-Search Mistakes Against). Consistency, patience and tactics are capital in defeating his opponents.
This type of example in tennis pro Michael Chang, Lleyton Hewitt, or Martina Hingis.

Well, now the tennis world has been greatly advanced in technology in terms of equipment and training of both skill and mental game. Previously Andre Agassi as a young man can be said to be the type of player A. Agassi blows arguably the hardest of the day. It's just that he has a mental deficient and inconsistent. But once coached by Brad Gilbert, who incidentally is a former pro player of type B, then there was assimilation in terms of technique and mentality that he was at the time coached by Gilbert can reach several Grand Slam titles. Also players like Sampras, Davenport, Graff or even Federer came from a Type A player whose technique and then when the power has been mastered, start honing mental and tactics such as the type of player B. They then become hybrid player types A and B that can dominate world tennis pro for a long time aka last.

I think it is in the case of tennis training, players will be good when it originally evolved from the players of type A. Finding coaches who have the ability to hone the skill, technique and power is crucial in the early development of the players. As time goes by and the psychological development of the players who have had hours of flying in tournaments or tennis matches, it can switch to a coach who has a vast knowledge in terms of tactics and mentality can strengthen. Usually this stage according to White, can be applied to players on the University level or at the level of the challenger tournament.

Tennis Forehand Stroke Technique

Posted by Unknown

Forehand, hit the most basic and most easily taught in tennis. Forehand swing itself is a blow to the back of the body towards the front and the front of the racket or the palm of the hand we are dealing with the ball.

I will try to describe the basic movements of classical forehand easy to learn for beginners. For those of you who are beginners, you can use a continental or eastern grip in holding a tennis racket and a stance that is used is a closed stance where the position of the body perpendicular to the line of the baseline or the net. Here is a picture that shows the movement in the classic forehand.

  • The movement started from body movement towards the ball and we have determined the exact zone the ball will hit. Zone was good to hit the tennis continental grip. (Figure 1). or eastern is the area in front of your body, in the area around the lower abdomen.
  • Then you swing your racket back together with your hands shoulder rotation that does not hold the racket forward. Left foot forward and the body is perpendicular to the line of the baseline or the net to make a closed stance (Fig. 2 and 3).
  • When the ball has entered the strike zone that you want, you swing your racket forward towards the point of contact between the ball with the racket (Figure 4).
  • Contact with the tennis ball racket and the ball should try to be the sweetspot of the racket for the perfection of the stroke (Figure 5).
  • Once this happens then we do followthrough fixed racket by swinging across the body to us in a direction approximately 11 hours (Figure 6).

Movement following a forehand forehand used by modern players today, where the difference in a classical way as above lies in the selection of grip, stance, and followthrough. Grip is commonly used by modern players are semi-western or full western so the main blow of the current players are mostly topspin. Then stance used is open stance where players get ready to hit the ball with the position of the body parallel to the line facing the baseline or the net. Let's see how the forehand is now commonly performed.

  • This image was taken from Andy Roddick forehand motion starting from the racquet swing backwards (Figure 1). You can see the stance used Andy Roddick is open stance where the first left foot forward and parallel body position or facing the net.
  • Figures 2 and 3 racket began swinging the ball forward towards the point of contact with the racket.
  • Racket to the point of contact with the ball on the racket head sweetspot area (Figure 4).
  • After the point of contact with the racquet ball then continued with followthrough where rackets forwarded to the sides with a movement like a car or whiper called "whiper whip" (Figures 5 and 6).

So I suggest for novice players to learn forehands with simple movements first with a classic swing and wear continental or eastern grip. If you have been able to master this shot well and can hit the ball over the net consistently, then you can experiment by trying different grips like a semi-western or western. Generally, along with the punch, then you are also getting better footwork and you can adjust the footwork that is used if you want to try to hit the other grip.
Another example here is that Federer forehand using semi-western grip. You can mimic the movement as an example of the perfect modern forehand.

Basic Techniques Playing Tennis (Grip)

Posted by Unknown

Here I will try to explain the basic techniques of playing tennis for you-if only you are still a beginner and wanted to try playing tennis properly. This paper I combine of some references that I can, hopefully it easy for you to follow.

Grip (Handle Racket)
I chose to discuss this because often the players are new or have been completely stuck playing tennis on the basis of an error in holding the racket. I see this is likely due to the most distant known badminton Indonesia as the most popular sport played in Indonesia, which often adopts the style grip badminton rackets.

Badminton racket grip tends to be in the middle of the handle, while the courts tend to be at the end of the handle of the racket. Examples can be seen in the following figure:
I think this difference can be understood from the kinetic swing in hitting the ball or shuttlecock in badminton. Tennis tends to use his swing and body movement as well as round the shoulder to hit the ball, so the racket can be considered as an extension and a single unit with the body. When the handle is in the midpoint of the racquet, the racquet will damage the stability and integrity of the swing arm itself. As with badminton racquet that has a lighter weight than tennis. Badminton use more wrist movement than the whole arm up to the shoulder itself, so that the handle in the middle of the handle even further strengthen the grip.

More ... The following will explain the position of the hand grip on the handle of tennis racket viewed from the position of the handle.

Generally octagonal tennis racket handle. The eight sides are divided into the top, bottom, left, right and angles 1, 2, 3, and 4 (clockwise) as illustrated in the picture on the side. That used to be the benchmark of every type of grip is the position of the base of the tip of your index finger.

Next we review some of the grip or handle of the racquet in a tennis game.

1. Continental forehand grip

Grip is a classic grip that is always used by tennis players antiquity when wooden rackets are used. The position of the hand just above the base of the handle of the racket and the position of the index is at the corner of 1 (for right-handed players) or the angle 4 (for left-handed players).

Modern pro players who were still using this type is Stefan Edberg and John McEnroe previously was. Grip is very good use on the field quickly, like grass, and is used by the player with the game type 'Service Volley'. Currently there is not much use as a type of continental forehand grip mainly because the faster tempo of the game with the ball spinning (spin). Minus grip is only used to blow horizontally (flat) and slice (slice), while for the spin punch rather difficult. Players who use this grip is also often difficult to face top spin balls that are slightly inflated parabolic. However, the continental grip is a standard grip to perform service and also to punch volley and overhead as a steady hand gripping the handle of the racket.

 2. Eastern forehand grip

Eastern  is most easily applied grip novice players. Grip is often referred to as the 'grip handshake'. You can try to start the handle of the racket neck, such as shaking hands, then down to the end of the handle of the racket. The position of the base of the index finger tends to be on the right side (for right-handed players) or the left (for right-handed players).

The handle of this type can provide a complete punch variation, be it flat, slice, or spin. Grip is perfect choice for players who often rely on the net to volley game because you can easily and quickly customize the grip to punch volley into the net. But minus the handle is again somewhat difficult to deal with topspin balls which are parabolic.

One of the pro players who dominated tennis in the 90s, that is Pete Sampras, using this grip as his choice because he is a typical player Service Volley very comfortable using this grip.

3. Semi-Western forehand grip

grip type is the most widely used by modern tennis players, especially those with type baseliner game (myself included).

You can try this grip by placing the base of your index finger in the corner of 2 (for right-handed players) or 3 (for right-handed players). Or it could be originated from eastern grip your hand then rotated clockwise one corner to 2 or 3.

The advantages of this grip is that you can hit a good spin by making it more likely to pass the ball over the net because it is parabolic. Grip can also be used to hit flat but it is not recommended to hit the slice. Minus of the grip is difficult to anticipate low balls resulting from blows flat or slice especially in fast pitch (grass or hard court).

Some examples of pro players who use this grip are: Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Marat Safin.

4. Western forehand grip

Grip this type is an extreme grip is used mainly to produce topspin strokes. Players claycourt specialist (clay) generally use this type of grip, too many of today's modern players.

I often refer to this as a grip 'handle frying pan' as how to hold a racket, just like we are holding up the wok or pan cooking. The trick is that you place the position of the base of the index finger on the underside of the handle of the racket. Or you can start from a position of semi-western corner and then shifted to the lower side of the handle of the racket.

Grip is very good to use for players who want to hit the ball with top spin to the extreme. Direction of the ball from the results of this blow can soar above the net and fell under extreme parabolic line. Grip is also very comfortable to use for anticipating high balls that usually occurs on clay. However, minus the grip of this type is not used to make flat punch and slice and also very difficult to anticipate slice balls that fall low on the ground quickly like grass (grass) or cement (hard court).

Pro players are adopting this type of grip is generally a clay specialist players such as Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moya or earlier is Sergi Bruguera.
